240 Million Years Old Fossils

The Paleontological Collection is one of the world's most important collections of marine reptiles and fish from the middle Triassic time, about 235 to 245 million years ago. These and the extraordinarily well-preserved and scientifically valuable fossils from Monte San Giorgio, the UNESCO world heritage site in southern Ticino, form the core of the museum鈥檚 collection. Fossils from the Zurich area, the Alps and North America provide an insight into the changing animal world of recent geological history.

Exhibits in the Natural History Museum

A large number of objects from the Paleontology Collection are part of the permanent exhibition in the Natural History Museum. In addition, new exhibits can be admired in special exhibitions on an ongoing basis.
